Our family found the Winged Wonders exhibit to be an exciting combination of educational facts and creative activities! Friends School Haverford thoughtfully arranged the backyard playground for children of all ages to explore the various life stages of a Monarch butterfly. Learners were able to follow the metamorphic change of the voracious caterpillar into a chrysalis, followed by the emergence of a beautiful Monarch butterfly. My elementary school-aged children absolutely loved the opportunity to feed live Monarchs in the butterfly tent. The festive day was enhanced by creative art activities, healthy snacks, and community fellowship. This event is a “must see” to be fully appreciated.

From the tiny, pale egg to the vibrant wings of the adult, Winged Wonders Education brings to life the metamorphosis of the Monarch butterfly with live specimens, mini-lessons, children’s literature, drama, and art activities that inspire wonder and tap into children’s natural curiosity about the world of butterflies.
Befriend a Monarch in the butterfly tent. Here, you’ll be able to hold and feed a live Monarch butterfly!
Learn about the Monarch’s fall migration to central Mexico and help track this incredible journey by participating in the tagging workshop. Tiny, numbered stickers (tags) are adhered to the hind wings of each butterfly before being released. Children help record information that allows them to track the journey of the tagged Monarchs.
At the end of the program, the butterflies are released. Participants are encouraged to make a wish that will ride on the wings of the Monarch during its 2,000 mile journey to Mexico!
