The Kindergarten through 5th grade classes are partnered with Haverfarm, a yearlong farming and educational space at Haverford College that is focused on sustainability, service, and community. Last week, the upper elementary students visited for the first time and met with Farmer Tilly to support their in-class learning about botany and community. Our 3rd through 5th graders loved smelling and tasting the herbs, identifying the growing fruits and vegetables, and learning about the work involved in traditional farming. “I had no idea that peppers grew like that!” one student wrote in her reflection journal. “I can’t wait to go back and get my hands dirty.”
